The slow-motion video on the Google Pixel 3<\/a> is simply incredible!<\/p>\n

Here’s a quick sample I shot on the spur of the moment as I watched US National Table Tennis Team member Adar Alguetti (ranked about 2600) fool an opponent with his serve and easily win the point. The slow-motion video reveals everything, including the deception*<\/a><\/sup> on the serve:<\/p>\n

This is a hand-held clip taken in poor florescent lighting, so it represents results that are easy to obtain in the real world.<\/p>\n

By contrast, the full-speed clip barely shows anything:<\/p>\n

In particular, notice how Adar hits the ball relatively square on. Then after he’s hit the ball, he moves his paddle flat, creating the impression that he actually hit the ball with a flat paddle. That kind of hit would create backspin. So his opponent in this case thinks there’s backspin on the ball and tries to lift the ball so it will go over the net. But there’s not a lot of backspin, so his opponent hits the ball too high, giving Adar an easy winning return.<\/div>
