Blue Sky at Night Thanks to the Amazing Google Pixel 3’s Night Sight

“Night Sight” on the Google Pixel 3 is another game changer (along with incredible slow motion). It’s so good that it can give you daytime-looking shots in moonlight:

Moon Over an Icy Reservoir — Straight Out of Camera

This image of a full moon over an icy reservoir is straight out of the Google Pixel 3 (except that I straightened it). And but for the shadowy trees, you might think it was shot during the day.

Daytime looking nighttime may not be what you’re looking for, of course, but the extra light and detail means you have plenty of creative options in post.

Here are two more night-ish variations of the same scene, heavily processed with Snapseed in-camera:

And here are two more night-sight shots, minimally processed:

Suburban House — Minimally Processed with Snapseed
Moon over Reservoir — Processed to Taste with Snapseed

In addition to everything else, the Google Pixel 3 opens new doors of possibility in low light. So if you’re in the market for a new camera phone, consider the Google Pixel 3.

About J.M. Hoffman

A prolific writer and avid photographer, J.M. Hoffman picked up his first camera when he was eight years old. And even though he abhors a cliche, he never looked back. Acclaimed as a "master raconteur" who writes with a "flair" (Times Literary Supplement of London), Hoffman authored two non-fiction books and contributed to over a dozen others before writing The Warwick Files. He continues to write fiction and non-fiction. In addition to writing and traveling the world lecturing about his books, Hoffman has also directed a dance troupe, taught darkroom technique, and explored Patagonia on horseback. From time to time he can be seen playing table tennis poorly at the WTCC. He lives just north of New York City.
