My Report
We just needed somewhere to hang our hats in San Jose for a couple of days on either end of our grand adventure to Costa Rica, and the Hilton Garden Inn La Sabana turned out to be perfect.
The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean and modern with stunning views. The weather was great. (Okay, that would have been true at any hotel in San Jose.) The hotel is flanked by a coffee shop and a Cosi to augment the (mediocre) hotel restaurant. It’s walking distance to La Sabana Park. It’s quiet at night. It’s got a rooftop pool. And it won’t break the bank.
Different people look for different things in a hotel. For me, especially if I’m just using a hotel as a base, I don’t look for anything fancy. I just want a clean and comfortable room and a friendly and competent staff — but, surprisingly, that combination is really hard to find without spending a lot of money, and sometimes not even then. So it’s all the more remarkable that a Garden Inn pulls it off.
The restaurant isn’t gourmet, but other than that, I’d be hard pressed to find anything to complain about.
Highly recommended.
