I love wildlife, so a safari was an obvious destination for me. What I didn’t expect at the Black Rhino Game Lodge was the luxury. My room looked like the lobby of a chalet. Add to that indoor and outdoor showers (in my room), a pool (that I didn’t use), and sitting areas overlooking the Pilanesberg — this would a magnificent destination even without the access to safari. And the power of my US dollar meant that the price was roughly what I would pay for a mid-scale hotel in a large American city.
Other things to know: The ductless air-conditioning unit worked beautifully. A fridge in my room made it easy to keep lots of water around. (The air in the Pilanesberg can be drier than on an airplane!) Full (and inexpensive) laundry service is available. The food was great.
